Article 14: Citizen Petition – Ban on single use disposable plastic bags
This article is a new bylaw submitted by North Andover residents “North Andover Citizens for Sustainable Living,” and would promote the use of reusable bags by regulating the use of single use plastic checkout bags in Town. The bylaw would apply to food establishments of more than 3,000 square feet of finished area, not including nonprofit festivals, religious institutions and schools. Food establishments would be required to use a recyclable paper bag or a reusable checkout bag. The bylaw would be enforced by the Health Department and businesses that do not comply would be subject to financial penalties. The bylaw would go into effect on January 1.
