Last evening, at the North Andover Board of Selectmen meeting, Gary Frederick, of Dallas-based Hillwood Development Company LLC, announced that Hillwood is under contract to purchase Osgood Landing at 1600 Osgood Street.
Mr. Frederick disclosed that his client is the e-commerce giant Amazon. The plan for the property is to demolish some of the existing industrial campus and expand it to a 3.6 million-square-foot state of the art distribution facility.
Regina Kean, Chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen stated, “Amazon will breathe life into this once thriving commercial space, re-establishing it as an economic hub for the Merrimack Valley. It will bring financial benefits to the town in the form of building permits and taxes, but more importantly it will bring benefits to the entire region including 1,500 jobs at various pay points and an increase in customers for our small business community.”
The Town has been working with the owners of 1600 Osgood for many years to find a way to maximize the value of the site, and is thrilled at the prospect of a use that will bring so many positives to the region with minimal impact on Town resources.
The Board of Selectmen have announced a Special Town Meeting on June 18, 2019 at 7:00 pm at the North Andover High School to address local zoning changes sought by Hillwood.
