These hatchling snapping turtles were found wandering around the parking lot at Town Hall. They may look small now, but when they are adults they can reach up to 19” long. Snapping turtles are mostly aquatic and feed on plants and animals. These little guys were moved out of the parking lot and closer to their destination, a nearby freshwater stream. Turtle nests hatch from August to October, and the babies are left to fend for themselves. If you find any little ones in a parking lot, the best thing to do is simply move them out of harm’s way and to the nearest wetland or wooded area.
