UTILITY SCAM ALERT

UTILITY SCAM ALERT

New England utility customers are being warned about a new scam using a peer-to-peer app to steal money. A Rhode Island woman was featured on NBC10’s WJAR-TV, saying she received a call alleging to be from National Grid, using a National Grid phone number and said they were coming to disconnect her electric and gas service due to an outstanding bill. The scammer then told her exactly how much she owed along with her account number. The woman admitted she panicked and used the Zelle app through her bank, which allows customers to send money quickly for free. The woman transferred nearly $800 dollars before realizing she was targeted by scammers.

National Grid would not threaten immediate shut-off, and in fact, right now due to the pandemic, no residential customers are experiencing terminations. When in doubt, always phone National Grid’s Customer Service hotline at 1-800-322-3223.  For additional information please visit ngrid.com/scam.

Share your thoughts for the Route 125 Corridor Study

The Town of North Andover is conducting a study of the Route 125 Corridor between Sutton Street and the Haverhill city line. This study is being funded by a Real Estate Technical Assistance Grant from MassDevelopment. The Town is working with Nitsch Engineering and Innes Associates to assess transportation, infrastructure, and zoning in the area. Help us develop a vision for the area by filling out a survey: https://arcg.is/1q0X0C

This process will involve multiple public engagement efforts to build an understanding of concerns and opportunities on Route 125. Keep updated on upcoming public meetings and the progress of the study on the website: https://route-125-corridor-study-nitsch.hub.arcgis.com/

This project is an excellent opportunity to develop a vision for the future of a key corridor in town, where people live, work, shop, and travel through. We look forward to your participation.

Please reach out to Dan Beckley, Staff Planner, at dbeckley@northandoverma.gov for more questions.
