Veterans Northeast Outreach Center & Massachusetts Military Support Foundation Food4Vets Bringing Food Drive to Merrimack Valley and the North Shore
Many of you may have heard about the very large and successful drive-through food distribution for Veterans at Gillette Stadium the past two weeks. Many of you may have even participated. However, for many Veterans in the North Shore and Merrimack Valley areas, it has been out of reach. Beginning next week, Veterans will be able to benefit from the drive here closer to home!
Veterans Northeast Outreach Center in partnership with Massachusetts Military Support Foundation Food4Vets, is increasing the areas of assistance to Massachusetts Veterans experiencing limited access to food due to COVID19. They will be holding drive-through food distribution events on Wednesdays beginning next week on April 22, 2020 in Haverhill. These distributions will be held on alternate weeks at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, and North Shore Community College in Danvers.
Similar to the Gillette Stadium food drive, Veterans will need to pre-register. If you are a North Andover or Boxford veteran and you are unable to pick up your food order please REGISTER and then contact me at jleblanc@northandoverma.gov or 978-688-9525 to arrange delivery assistance. Treasury Partners with Veterans Affairs to Deliver Economic Impact Payments to Veterans Automatically
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of the Treasury and IRS announced today that they are working directly with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to ensure Veterans and their beneficiaries who receive Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefit payments will receive their Economic Impact Payments automatically and without additional paperwork.
“Economic Impact Payments will be issued automatically to our Veterans and their families who did not file tax returns for 2018 or 2019,” said Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin. “The Treasury, IRS and VA are working hard to ensure our nation’s heroes receive these payments quickly and without any additional action or paperwork.”
Many non-tax filing beneficiaries have already begun using the “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info” tool to provide basic personal information to receive their EIP. There will be no interruption to payments being processed using this online tool. Veterans with Internet access are encouraged to continue providing information.
For those who do not have access, or choose not to use the “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info” tool, their EIP will be processed with no further action required from them.

Mental Health and COVID-19: Tips for stress or anxiety while social distancing
The outbreak of COVID-19 is a challenging time for all people. When the fear and anxiety about the disease is combined with social distancing, it can lead to increased stress and heightened anxiety in individuals. However, there are many different ways to cope with stress, anxiety, and other aspects of mental health while this situation is ongoing. Here are some ways to recognize stress, as well as some tips and resources to help you deal with how you are feeling during this time.
Stress during an infectious disease outbreak can include:
-
Fear and worry about your own health and the health of loved ones
-
Change in sleeping or eating patterns
-
Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
-
Worsening of chronic health problems
-
Increased use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs
Ways to deal with increased stress or anxiety
-
Separate what is in your control from what is not – Focus on what you can do. Wash your hands and take your vitamins. Limit your consumption of news.
-
Take a walk outside – utilize a nearby hiking trail through the woods, or take a walk through the park. Make sure to maintain social distancing requirements and follow any signage on site.
-
Stay connected and reach out for support – FaceTime, call or text friends to stay in touch. Talk about your thoughts and how you feel. If you’re feeling particularly anxious or struggling with your mental health, it’s ok to reach out to a mental health professional for support.
-
Utilize different techniques to relax – Stretch, breathe deeply or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well balanced meals, regularly exercise, and get plenty of sleep. Make time for yourself to unwind and do activities you enjoy.
Managing anxiety or stress related to unfolding news
-
Get your information from trusted sources – visit the North Andover Health Department, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health or CDC’s website for updates and information.
-
Avoid obtaining news on social media – it is very easy for inaccurate or dangerous information to be spread rapidly on social media.
-
Don’t be afraid to unplug – turn off the TV or put down your phone. Do an activity like reading or going for a walk that allows you to briefly disconnect from electronics. Avoid excess consumption of news or media.
