North Andover’s West Nile Virus Risk Level Raised to Moderate
The North Andover Board of Health was notified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) that the West Nile Virus (WNV) risk level for North Andover has been raised to Moderate.
The increase is due to multiple recurring detections of WNV in mosquitoes in surrounding communities. While there have been no current positive mosquito samples reported in North Andover, the increased activity in surrounding areas indicates a greater potential for WNV transmission locally.
The risk level for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in North Andover remains Low. Positive mosquito samples for EEE have been identified in Plymouth County.
Community members should continue to take precautions throughout mosquito season, even as temperatures begin to cool, until the first hard frost occurs this fall.
