It’s a Toilet, Not a Trash Can!
Even if they’re small, even if the package says “flushable,” some everyday items can cause messy and expensive problems for your plumbing and our sewer treatment facilities.
Products that might seem safe to flush down the toilet, such as personal care wipes, dental floss and paper towels, don’t dissolve quickly – or at all – in water. If a scrap of undissolved material gets caught on a nick, bend or bump within a pipe, it can trigger a growth of buildup that could cause a sewer backup in your home or neighborhood.
Sewer agencies, environmentalists and consumer advocates are working with manufacturers to correct product labeling. In the meantime, please make sure to dispose of personal care products, cleaning supplies and other household waste properly: in the trash can, in the recycling bin or at your local household hazardous waste disposal site. The Town of North Andover is developing a Historic Preservation Plan to further best practices in the recognition, protection, preservation, and enhancement of the Town’s historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes, and other heritage resources. The Historic Preservation Plan was an identified action of North Andover’s 2018 Master Plan and is being led by the Town’s Planning Department in collaboration with the Historical Commission, Historic District Commissions, Historical Society, and other stakeholders. The project is funded through a historic preservation grant from the Community Preservation Committee.
The Town would like to hear from residents about preservation and historic character in North Andover. Please fill out our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NorthAndoverHP

The High School track and upper field is closed to the public for the track to be redone. We expect the track and field to reopen mid-October.
The Town’s Community Development and Conservation Departments have officially kicked off a Tree Inventory and Management Plan project with a contracted consultant, Davey Resource Group! This project, which is called for in the Town's Master Plan, will result in an inventory of public shade trees in areas such as public parks, schools, playgrounds, and along rights-of-way in the downtown area. Depending on where you are, you may see members of the consultant team out and about in their bright yellow or orange shirts inspecting trees and measuring their trunks during the next several weeks.
The consultants will be hard at work in the field, so if you have any questions or need additional information about this tree inventory effort, please contact Justine Fox, Conservation Field Inspector in the Conservation Department, at jfox@northandoverma.gov or 978-688-9530.
