NORTH ANDOVER COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY FOR NEW SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER

The Town of North Andover today announced that it has completed the acquisition of two parcels of land at the corner of Sutton Street and Surrey Drive in North Andover, which will host its new Senior Community Center.  The Town purchased one of the parcels and the other was donated to the Town from MINCO, a real estate development company based in North Andover.

“This was the final step before we can commence construction,” said Town Manager Melissa Rodrigues.  “We are thankful to MINCO, and particularly Lou Minicucci, for their generous donation and we look forward to welcoming seniors and other members of our community into their new and improved facility as soon as possible.”

The new building, which will be located on Sutton Street, was already approved by the Planning Board to allow for the construction of a two story, 13,500 square foot Senior Community Center.  The proposed building includes a multi-purpose room, kitchen, cafe/lounge area, office space, fitness room, game room, three activity rooms and an outdoor patio area.  There will be 81 dedicated parking spaces on-site.

The funding to build the project was appropriated at the 2018 and 2019 Town Meetings, and the contract to construct the project was awarded last year to Castagna Construction of Danvers, MA.

“I’d like to recognize our planning, senior center, legal and DPW teams for their incredible work on this project,”  said Laura Bates, the Select Board Chair.  “Their diligence and commitment to our seniors kept this project on track and has moved us toward this success.”

Next steps will be final permit applications and the commencement of demolition of existing structures on the property.
