Big thanks going out to Karen Burke with Veterans Services of Melrose, The Boston Food Bank, The City of Melrose, for the extra food the they donated to the Veterans of North Andover.

Don’t forget to flatten your cardboard! Cardboard that is larger than 30 inches by 30 inches will not fit in the recycling truck, and unflattened cardboard causes the truck to fill up too quickly since the material is not compacted. #TrashTalkTuesday

#MVGasFire Gas Techs Have Visited 405/1606 Non-Impacted Properties. Expected to Complete All 1606 by Late Tonight.

The town has confirmed that there are 148 gas technicians in North Andover working on restoring service to the non-impacted areas. They have visited 405 of the 1606 properties in this category as of 4:30pm. They will be working late into the night to visit all 1606 properties. If they have been to your house and you were not home, they should have left a door hanger with a number to call. Call that number right away since they may be able to return later this evening.

#MVGasFire Understanding the Gas Restoration Process

The Town of North Andover cannot thank everyone enough for all your help and patience during this emergency. We understand that it can be challenging to keep track of important information as the situation evolves.

Here is an updated summary of what you should know:

  • All homes are cleared for return.
  • Electric Power is returned to all but a few households.
  • If your gas service is turned on, you may use it. (This is true for Non-Impacted and Impacted Streets.)
  • North Andover YMCA has gas and is open for all residents for hot showers or to workout. You do not need to be a member.
  • 500 technicians began the restoration process this morning in North Andover and Andover.
  • If your gas service is turned off, DO NOT turn it on yourself under any circumstances. Only the gas company may turn on gas service!
  • The gas company has identified two restoration categories for homes with shut off gas service:
  • Non-Impacted

    • Homes in the Non-Impacted category are expected to be restored within the next 48 Hours.
    • Please call 1-866-388-3239 to schedule restoration.
    • You are encouraged to tape your contact number to your door.
Be Safe
  • Call 911 immediately if you smell gas or encounter any other emergency situation.
  • Do not turn on or attempt to turn on your gas service. It does not matter who turned your gas service off. If your gas service is off, do not turn it on yourself. Only the gas company is allowed to turn on your gas service. If you have not already done so, call the hotline number for service restoration: 1-866-388-3239.
  • Ensure that all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. Test and check batteries or power supply.
  • Inspect all heating, hot water, and gas appliances in your home. If you observe or suspect any damage to these systems, call a licensed electrician to evaluate and repair. Make sure to photograph and catalog any damage in case you need to file a claim. The Recovery Resource Center may be able to help.
  • If your gas service is turned on, you may use your gas service only after inspecting your houseIf in doubt, call 1-866-388-3239. If in doubt, go without until a professional can confirm it is safe.
