Wildfire Advisory
This alert message serves to inform you of an ongoing wildfire smoke event affecting eastern Massachusetts. Wildfire smoke has permeated large portions of the region. Reports confirm multiple fires, with the largest encompassing over 233 acres in Middleton, MA. Smoke from these and other fires throughout the state has led to degraded air quality, prompting concerns for the health of residents, particularly those at increased risk.
This afternoon the current pollution levels in our area increased to an unhealthy level and continue to fluctuate in our area due to wind and temperature changes. In the unhealthy range, everyone could begin to experience symptoms such as eye irritation, coughing, shortness of breath and are at risk of respiratory infections. People with underlying conditions such as asthma or allergies may also experience more severe reactions. We will continue to monitor the situation and put out additional information as necessary.
You may look at the pollution monitoring data here:
Climate Fact Sheet: Wildfire Smoke (available in 15 languages) – This resource explains who is at higher risk during a wildfire smoke event, including young children, older adults, individuals with respiratory conditions, and others with heightened vulnerability, and provides things people can do to stay safe such as talking with their provider about asthma medications, moving outdoor activities indoors, and having a supply of N95 masks available as needed.
Climate Fact Sheet: Poor Outdoor Air Quality (available in 15 languages) – This resource explains who is at higher risk to poor outdoor air quality including people with asthma, lung, or heart conditions, and provides steps people can take to stay safe such as staying informed about local air quality and reducing outdoor activities on high-pollution days.
Wreaths Across America Honoring our North Andover Veterans
The North Andover VFW Post #2104, has partnered with North Andover CAM to produce a series of short video vignettes highlighting some of the local Veterans that will be honored with a graveside wreath by telling their story, including pictures and first-hand accounts of their service. These videos will be shown at the North Andover Historical Society’s Worden Theater on Saturday, November 9th at 1pm and 3pm. There is no charge to attend this program.
Sponsor a wreath today to be placed on a veteran’s grave this December at Ridgewood Cemetery.
