The North Andover Cultural Council needs your help! We need the people who live and work in town to help advise us about how best to allocate public dollars for programs and activities in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences. You can help by applying for grants, sharing information about the grants and reaching out to ask if you might be a good fit to serve on the North Andover Cultural Council.
This year our all-volunteer, municipally-appointed council has received $15,600 to fund projects by individuals, organizations and schools that serve a broad range of interests and needs. Our task is challenging and time-limited. All applications for grants must be turned in by Wednesday October 16th. No late applications will be accepted. We actively seek input, inquiries and community information from grant applicants, local arts and culture program leaders and community members. Click here to register and apply.
Lake Cochichewick is North Andover’s only drinking water supply source and to continue supplying safe drinking water, we need your help to preserve the beauty and health of the lake by taking a few key steps to prevent harmful algal blooms.
· Use phosphorus-free fertilizers in your garden and lawn to minimize nutrient runoff.
· Please make sure dogs are not going into the lake. This is for the protection and safety of the lake and your pets.
· Always pick up after your pets on the trails to prevent contamination.
· Be mindful of car washing in your driveway. Anything that lands on property has the potential to end up in our water supply!
Phosphorus becomes the limiting nutrient in freshwaters. Availability of excess useable phosphorus from overfertilization of lawns, improperly functioning sanitary systems, and domestic animal waste can have a significant effect on the ecological balance of a lake. This may lead to algal blooms, overgrowth of plants, fish kills, and various other undesirable results.
By working together, we can ensure our lake remains clean, vibrant, and enjoyable for all. Thank you for being a steward of our precious watershed.
The Stevens Memorial Library will have a delayed opening tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17 for a staff meeting. They will be open 1pm – 9pm.

Even if they’re small, even if the package says “flushable,” some everyday items can cause messy and expensive problems for plumbing and our sewer treatment facilities.
Products that might seem safe to flush down the toilet, such as personal care wipes, dental floss and paper towels, don’t dissolve quickly – or at all – in water. If a scrap of undissolved material gets caught on a nick, bend or bump within a pipe, it can trigger a growth of buildup that could cause a sewer backup in your home or neighborhood.
Sewer agencies, environmentalists and consumer advocates are working with manufacturers to correct product labeling. In the meantime, please make sure to dispose of personal care products, cleaning supplies and other household waste properly: in the trash can, in the recycling bin or at your local household hazardous waste disposal site.
