Protect Lake Cochichewick- Keep our Watershed Healthy!

Lake Cochichewick is North Andover’s only drinking water supply source and to continue supplying safe drinking water, we need your help to preserve the beauty and health of the lake by taking a few key steps to prevent harmful algal blooms.

·         Use phosphorus-free fertilizers in your garden and lawn to minimize nutrient runoff.

·         Please make sure dogs are not going into the lake. This is for the protection and safety of the lake and your pets.

·         Always pick up after your pets on the trails to prevent contamination.

·         Be mindful of car washing in your driveway. Anything that lands on property has the potential to end up in our water supply!

Phosphorus becomes the limiting nutrient in freshwaters. Availability of excess useable phosphorus from overfertilization of lawns, improperly functioning sanitary systems, and domestic animal waste can have a significant effect on the ecological balance of a lake. This may lead to algal blooms, overgrowth of plants, fish kills, and various other undesirable results.

By working together, we can ensure our lake remains clean, vibrant, and enjoyable for all. Thank you for being a steward of our precious watershed.
