2023 Mosquito Spraying

SCHOOLS & PUBLIC FIELDS & PARKS NOTICE
STANDARD WRITTEN NOTIFICATION
BARRIER AND ULV ADULTICIDE APPLICATION TO CONTROL MOSQUITOES

The Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control and Wetlands Management District is conducting an application to control adult mosquitoes on Tuesday August 1st, 2023, in the evening between the hours of 8:00pm and 12am in North Andover. In case of inclement weather, the Backup date of application would be Wednesday August 2nd, 2023. The areas to be treated are the North Andover High & Middle School*, Atkinson School, Brooks School, Kittredge School, Franklin School, Sargent School, Drummond Field, Grogan Field, Carl Thomas Playground, Aplin Playground, McEvoy Field, Reynolds Playground, Gallagher Field, Cyr Rec Area, Foster Farm Fields, Carter Fields, Anne Bradstreet ECC, Old Town Common, Thomas Elementary, Patriot Memorial Field & The Stevens Estate. 

(*Please note, due to the timing of National Night Out, the North Andover Middle School area will be sprayed last.) 

The materials to be applied:

Suspend Polyzone (EPA Reg# 432-1514). Active Ingredient: Deltamethrin 4.75%. Suspend Polyzone is a long-lasting, up to 90 days, and effective residual barrier formulation that controls adult mosquitoes, even in warmer and wet environments. Zenivex E4-RTU (EPA Reg# 2724-807). Active Ingredient: Etofenprox (CAS #80844-07-1) 4%. Zenivex E4 RTU mosquito adulticide is a high efficacy, reduced risk adulticide that provides quick, permanent knockdown and reliable control of adult mosquito populations in any mosquito habitat flying at the time of application. This product contains no synergist, therefore no Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO). The Safety Data Sheet and product label can be viewed at https://www.nemassmosquito.org/public-education/pages/adulticide

The vehicle is a mid-sized white pickup truck, marked with the NEMMC seal and will be driving slowly through the above designated areas with yellow lights activated. Residents and pets should remain indoors while the vehicle is operating in these designated areas. Air conditioners may remain ON. Please close doors and windows on the street side; they can be reopened within half an hour after truck passes. Recommendations are specific to ground spraying.

TUE 7/25 @ 7PM Virtual Genealogy Lesson Come find out all about navigating the world of DNA testing and how to use your DNA matches to enlarge your family tree. Register here.


WED 7/26 @ 7PM Learn to Play the Ukulele (Adults) Learn how to hold, tune, strum, fret, read chords and play songs on the ukulele with Julie Stepanek. No experience necessary!

Julie supplies a limited number of ukuleles, and attendants are welcome to bring their own. Registration is encouraged to ensure you get an instrument. Register here.

Learn to Play the Ukulele program for teens will be held on August 3rd.

WED 7/26 @ 7PM Nicolette Heavey – Storyteller (Under the Tent at Atkinson!) Nicolette is full of tales from around the world… funny, thought provoking and brought to life with the power of storytelling. Ages 3+

THUR 7/27 @ 6PM Paper Art Engineering Family Night! Have you seen origami? Folded paper houses? Pop-up cards? These are all examples of Paper Engineering. We'll be making lots of folded paper animals, machines, and things that jump up or spin around from paper!

This program is designed for children age 8+ independently or 5+ with an attentive adult partner because it requires accurate scissor skills and careful folding.

Registration is requested for Family Night so we can plan for supplies. We will be creating more complex paper crafts! Register here.
