In observance of International Overdose Awareness Day on Monday, August 31, the Town of North Andover has placed temporary Purple Flag Garden displays on the front lawns of both Town Hall and the Stevens Memorial Library.The purple flags stand in remembrance of those lost to overdose, offer support to families and individuals impacted by substance use, and reaffirm our community's commitment to raising awareness and reducing stigma.For local support and resources, please contact the Town of North Andover Community Support Coordinator at (978) 794-2032.
– MassDOT: Route 114 Corridor Improvements – North Andover – Project Construction Update
What's New?
- This fall, September through November 2026, the contractor anticipates the following construction activities throughout the Route 114 corridor:
- Demolition activities will continue at properties located at the intersection of Route 114 and Hillside Road in North Andover, including asbestos abatement, utility work, and demolition of structures at 582, 591, 599, and 607 Turnpike Street.
- Excavation and gravel placement are underway between the Andover Bypass and Willow Street for the future shared-use path.
- Route 114 center median removal and temporary paving activities are underway throughout the corridor to facilitate traffic movements around active work zones.
- Installation and maintenance of erosion control, sediment control, and stormwater protection measures in advance of and alongside upcoming work activities.
- Test pitting (soil sampling and utility investigation) at various locations on Route 114 throughout the corridor will continue through September.
- Utility work and field verification activities will be conducted to confirm the locations of existing utilities in advance of future utility relocations. Activities will include:
- Sawcutting of roadway surfaces to support utility installation
- Utility pole relocation work at various locations throughout the corridor
- Gas utility relocation activities through the fall construction season.
When is this Work Happening?
- Work activities are scheduled on weekdays, Monday – Friday, during the fall construction season.
- Work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
How Will this Affect You?
- Lane shifts, traffic control devices, and police details may be required on Route 114 in the project limits to support these activities for public and worker safety.
- Construction signage will remain in place and may be adjusted as needed to support shifting work areas and maintain safe travel through the corridor.
- Access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained.
- Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
