Although there is an advisory for freshwater fish consumption from Lake Cochichewick, water treatment technologies have been tested and have demonstrated that PFAS can be removed from drinking water. One such technology is the use of activated carbon, and the drinking water for North Andover is filtered through granular activated carbon beds. North Andover's drinking water PFAS levels have consistently tested below the current Massachusetts standard. Additionally, North Andover's drinking water PFAS levels have consistently tested below the more stringent impending National Federal Drinking Water regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
