Work begins today on the Columbia Gas long-term restoration plans in the affected Greater Lawrence Area.
The first venting of the natural gas system will occur in Lawrence starting at 2 p.m. ET near the intersection of Amherst and Beacon Streets and at 209 South Broadway. This is a routine and safe procedure to ensure any residual gas is removed from the natural gas lines prior to crews beginning work and will occur throughout the restoration.
During this process, you may notice an odor of gas and hear a loud noise. You'll also see a concentration of gas utility workers and emergency responders around the venting area.
